The King of the Waltz Returns to the Stage
Prepare to be swept away by the enchanting melodies and grand spectacle of André Rieu, the world-renowned Dutch violinist and conductor. Known globally as the "King of the Waltz," Rieu has made it his life's mission to make classical music accessible and enjoyable for everyone. His concerts are not just musical performances; they are extravagant, joyful events that combine stunning visuals, humour, and audience participation, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that has captivated millions worldwide. From his charismatic stage presence to the lavish costumes worn by his orchestra, every detail is crafted to transport you to a world of romance and celebration.
Born in Maastricht, Netherlands, to a musical family, André Rieu began playing the violin at the age of five. In 1987, he founded his beloved Johann Strauss Orchestra, starting with just 12 members. Today, it is the world's largest private orchestra, with up to 60 musicians on stage, many of whom have been with him for decades. Together, they have achieved phenomenal success, selling over 40 million albums and DVDs and receiving hundreds of gold and platinum awards. Their repertoire is a delightful mix, seamlessly blending classical masterpieces and Viennese waltzes with beloved film scores, operatic arias, and even pop and rock hits, ensuring there is something for every taste.
An Unforgettable Live Experience
An André Rieu concert is a feast for the senses. The show often begins with the orchestra making a grand entrance through the audience, creating an immediate connection with the fans. The stage itself is often a spectacle, with past tours featuring full-sized replicas of Viennese palaces, complete with fountains and ice rinks. Rieu, a natural showman who speaks multiple languages, engages the crowd with jokes and stories, creating a light-hearted and festive atmosphere. It’s a common sight to see audiences spontaneously leave their seats to dance in the aisles to classics like "The Blue Danube." This unique blend of world-class musicianship and pure entertainment is what makes his live shows a global phenomenon, regularly placing his tours among the highest-grossing in the world.
Fans across Europe are eagerly awaiting his upcoming tour dates. The magic will soon be felt in cities like Glasgow, Manchester, and Liverpool, offering a chance to witness this spectacular production live. For those who appreciate the modern take on classical performances, the energy of an André Rieu show might also lead you to explore the celebrated BBC Proms or the crossover artistry of vocalists like Katherine Jenkins. Each offers a unique way to experience the power and beauty of orchestral and vocal music. Whether you are a lifelong classical music aficionado or a newcomer curious to see what all the excitement is about, an André Rieu concert promises a night of joy, romance, and breathtaking music.
