Number ones, Grammy Awards, Hall of Fame
Formed from the ashes of rival vocal groups The Primes and The Distants, The Temptations came together in 1961 in Detroit and shortly after, they signed to Motown offshoot Miracle. The ever-changing line-up scored the first of 37 US Top 40 hits in 1964 with "The Way You Do the Things You Do," and that same year, they reached number one with signature track "My Girl." In 1969, they became the first Motown act to win a Grammy, a period in which they started to pursue a more politically-active psychedelic sound. The group continued their winning streak in the early 1970s with number ones "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" and "Papa was a Rollin' Stone," and in 1989, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group enjoyed a revival in the early 1990s thanks to a Rod Stewart collaboration and a re-release of "My Girl," and at the end of the decade saw their life story adapted into an Emmy-winning miniseries. The show goes on
More than half a century after arriving on the music scene, The Temptations remain a must-see live act. Although the group has welcomed over two dozen vocalists into the fold during their glittering career, one has remained a constant, Otis Williams. The last surviving original member has proven that age is nothing but a number by continuing to hit the road with his younger bandmates and deliver a show just as entertaining as those in his '60s/'70s heyday. Fans should look forward to seeing the perfectly-timed choreography and hearing the exquisite harmonies The Temptations built their career on as the quintet race through a hit-packed back catalogue that includes classics such as "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep," "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)" and "I Wish It Would Rain." If you haven't yet experienced the joys of watching the legendary Motown act on stage, then check out the range of The Temptations tickets on offer at StubHub. You can also book tickets for fellow Motown legends The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and Martha Reeves.
