Texas Longhorns Football Tickets
The University of Texas fielded its first football team during the 1893 season and quickly became one of the most popular teams in the region. Texas joined the Southwest Conference in 1915, where it would remain for eight decades until switching to the newly formed Big 12 Conference in 1996. Between 1957 and 1976, the team achieved its most sustained success under head coach Darren K. Royal, who won national championships in 1963, 1969 and 1970. After Royal stepped down, Fred Akers led Texas to an 11-1 season with legendary running back Earl Campbell. Texas would win another national championship under head coach Mack Brown. An undefeated season in 2005 culminated with a 41-38 win over USC in the Rose Bowl. The team once again reached the BCS National Championship Game in 2009 but lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Fans of the Longhorns can experience a game for themselves. Get your Texas Longhorns tickets at StubHub.
Where does Texas play?
The team plays at the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, located on the Austin campus of the University of Texas. Opened in 1924, the stadium was later named after legendary coach Darren K. Royal. It has a capacity of 100,119, making it one of the largest stadiums in the country. The stadium features both standard and premium seating. The premium seating includes the Texas Club, the Sylvie and Gary Crum Touchdown Club, the Carpenter-Winkel Centennial Suite and the Terrace Club.
What is there to do before a Longhorns game?
A Texas Longhorns game affords plenty for fans to experience. Several hours before kickoff, fans can experience a free pre-game street party along Bevo Blvd. The event features food trucks, television screens, a pre-game radio show, interactive games, photo ops and merchandise. A street parade featuring Bevo, the team’s mascot, begins three and a half hours before kickoff near the south entrance. Fans will also have a chance to greet the team approximately two and a half hours before kickoff at the north entrance as the players enter the stadium. Just before kickoff, the festivities include a performance from the marching band and the team entrance onto the field.
Is tailgating allowed at the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium?
Tailgating is permitted around much of the nearby campus area with your own grill and cooking equipment. If you want to tailgate without the hassle of bringing your own equipment, then there are multiple options you can choose from. One of the most popular tailgating destinations is near the Bevo Blvd. fan experience. Official tailgating parties also include the Alumni Center tailgate, the UT Club tailgate tent and the Legends Club tailgate, all of which require a membership. Tailgaters are expected to abide by the university’s policies at all times.
Who are Texas’s biggest rivals?
The Texas-Oklahoma game, commonly known as the Red River Rivalry, is one of the most anticipated college football matchups of the year. The teams first met in 1900 and have played every year since 1929 in the Dallas Cotton Bowl. The stadium is split right down the 50-yard line with an equal number of fans on each side. The winner of the game is awarded the Golden Hat trophy. Texas also shares a rivalry with fellow state schools Texas Tech, TCU and Texas A&M. The winner of the Texas-Texas Tech game receives the Chancellor’s Spurs.
