Sparks Biography - The Mad Scientists of Music
Brothers Russell and Ron Mael began their rock 'n' roll education early under the tuition of '60s British bands. Inspired by the likes of The Who and The Kinks, the Maels started their own band, Halfnelson, in 1971. A year later the pair renamed themselves Sparks and made their chart breakthrough in 1974 with Kimono My House, which reached Number Two in the UK.
However, the duo eventually tired of their rock image and opted for a more electronic sound. Over the years, they've produced ground-breaking albums including Lil' Beethoven and their radio musical masterpiece, The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman, continually pushing the boundaries of the genre.
