Space Biography - Dark Scouse Humour
Formed in 1993, this '60s inspired rock group first attempted to mimic The Who and the Kinks. Classic film soundtracks also held an influence over their one-of-a-kind sound, inspiring their unique use of sampling and electronic instruments. This melting pot of influences impressed Gut Records, which signed the group and distributed their debut single 'Money' in 1995.
Yet it was the group's third single, 'Female of the Species', which brought them international success. Impressing both critics and music fans with its witty lyrics and spacey sound, the song hit the Top 15 on the UK singles chart, making way for their equally successful debut album, Spiders, which would enter the Top 5 UK albums and go platinum. Their talents attracted the likes of Catatonia frontwoman Cerys Matthews and Welsh ladies' man Tom Jones both of whom collaborated with the popular rockers. Two decades later the group continue to amass a cult following with their dark humour and incredible stage presence. Their live shows have become the stuff of legend thanks to frontman Tommy Scott's on-stage antics and fez-adorned Ryan Clarke's intense keyboard skills.
