Skindred Biography - Genre-Jumping Rockers

In 1998, frontman Benjii Webbe decided to form a new rock group from the ashes of his previous band Dub War, enlisting the help of bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Demus and drummer Dirty Arya Gooin. The Newport four-piece began writing and recording a totally fresh sound, fusing together seemingly incompatible music genres including reggae, heavy metal and punk.

After signing to Earache Records, the band earned their due on the live circuit before releasing their debut album Babylon in 2002. A minor underground success in the UK, the LP was re-released in 2004 with extra material and highly conceptualised record art. It became a smash hit in the US, soaring to Number 1 in the Billboard Reggae Chart. Timeless tracks like 'Nobody' made this album a cult classic and since then their follow up albums Roots Rock Riot and Shark Bites and Dog Fights have achieved similar success, leading to many global tours with rock star admirers like Sevendust, Nonpoint and Papa Roach.
