Simply Red Biography - Mick Hucknall and the Band are Back
Despite starting out in a punk outfit inspired by the Sex Pistols, flame haired crooner Mick Hucknall brought a few session musicians together to create a soul band later called Red - changed soon after by adding the word 'Simply' to the name. Their debut album Picture Book contained the hit 'Money's Too Tight (to Mention)', which helped the group gain recognition.
The band's fame peaked with the 1991 release of Stars, the first album to feature all songs written entirely by Hucknall. Besides being the bestselling UK album in 1991 for two years running, the record won Hucknall an Ivor Novello Award for best Songwriter of the Year Award, was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and earned the group the BRIT Award for Best British Band.
