Santa Cruz Warriors TicketsThe Santa Cruz Warriors team is a minor league developmental program of the Golden State Warriors. It serves as an important farm system for its NBA team, which can send and recall players at will. Before it became an NBA affiliate, the franchise was originally founded as the North Dakota Wizards in 1995. Owned by Bill Sorensen, it was part of the International Basketball Association, with which it won the 2001 championship, and the Continental Basketball Association, with which it won the 2002 and 2004 championships. The Wizards joined the NBA G-League in 2006 as an affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, later affiliating with the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies, and immediately won the 2007 championship. Altogether, the Wizards left behind a strong legacy of four championships in three different leagues. In 2011, the Golden State Warriors purchased the team and moved it closer to home in Santa Cruz. In its best ever season, Santa Cruz won the 2015 G-League Finals in a two-game series over Fort Wayne. What was Santa Cruz’s record for the 2018-2019 season?Santa Cruz finished atop the Pacific Division — and tied for the best record in the entire league — with a record of 34-16. Thanks to its division title, the team received a bye through the first round of the playoffs. In the single-elimination conference semifinals, Santa Cruz beat the OKC Blue 117-102. Kendrick Nunn scored a game-high 31 points off the bench in the victory, and the Warriors set a record with 43 points in the second quarter. However, in the conference semifinals, the Warriors lost to the eventual champions and first overall seed, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, by a score of 144-125. Nunn once again scored a game-high 29 points off the bench in the loss.
When does the season take place?Santa Cruz began the quest for the 2019-2020 G-League Championship on November 8. Along the way, Santa Cruz plays up to five games against each division foe: the Stockton Kings, Agua Caliente Clippers, South Bay Lakers and Northern Arizona Sun. The regular season then concludes with a home game against the South Bay Lakers on March 28. Following the end of the regular season, the NBA G-League playoffs will begin no earlier than March 31, and the finals will begin no later than April 17.
Does Santa Cruz have a rival?Santa Cruz shares the Pacific Division with three other California teams: the Stockton Kings, Agua Caliente Clippers and South Bay Lakers. Each team is an extension of its NBA owner — the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively — so there is a certain amount of history already embedded in those matchups that goes back decades.
Who is Santa Cruz’s head coach?Kris Weems was promoted from assistant coach to head coach on August 15, 2019 after the previous coach, Aaron Miles, was elevated to player development coach on Golden State’s staff. Before he joined the Warriors organization, Weems was the director of athletics for the Menlo School in Atherton, Calif., between 2014 and 2017. He attended Stanford University and helped the team make the 1998 NCAA Final Four.
What is a home game like?During a Santa Cruz Warriors game, fans will have the opportunity to catch some of the top prospects and developmental projects from the Golden State Warriors. Many of the players will appear in the NBA at some point in the future, so fans can expect high-quality basketball. Kaiser Permanente Arena, which is the home of the UC Santa Cruz basketball teams from Division III, has a seating capacity of around 2,500. The arena has basic concessions areas and a one-level seating arrangement. Fans can also purchase scoreboard messages that will appear during halftime.
