Reef - Somerset's Finest Rock Band Touring in Winter 2016
Best known for their thumping, no-nonsense indie rock hit 'Place Your Hands', these Glastonbury based musicians have endured the years to become one of Britain's best loved alt rock bands. Gaining traction on the airwaves in the Britpop years, Reef had little in common with their peers, releasing their Rolling Stones inspired decade-defining album Glow in 1997 to widespread critical acclaim.
After spending 2016 opening for huge artists like Coldplay, alongside Alessia Cara and Lianne La Havas, the group are now set to embark on their own headline tour of the UK this winter. They'll celebrate the release of their brand new live album Reef: Live at St Ives and fresh single 'How I Got Over' with live dates across the country. Don't miss out! Reef Biography - Hear 'Place Your Hands' and More, Live in the Flesh
Despite the fact vocalist Gary Stringer, guitarist Kenwyn House, bassist Jack Bessant and drummer Dominic Greensmith all hail from the West Country, it wasn't until they met in London in 1993 that the foursome started to jam together. Their creative deluge resulted in their first Purple Tape demo - and the rest, as they say, is history.
After deliberating over naming the band Big Talk, Naked and No Smoke, the group eventually settled on their current moniker Reef, after which it all came together. The band achieved their breakthrough moment in 1994 after appearing in a TV advert for Sony's minidisc player with the single 'Naked', which went on to soar to Number 11 in the UK charts. During the 1990s, the group's notoriety on the music circuit was strengthened by a number of high-profile gigs, such as opening for Paul Weller at Royal Albert Hall in 1994, supporting Soundgarden and even their heroes The Rolling Stones.
Their 1996 single 'Place Your Hands' became a huge decade-defining anthem, skyrocketing sales of sophomore record Glow. One of the more unique bands of the Britpop movement, their music is still revered today and their gigs still high in demand.
