The Ladies Professional Golf Association’s Kingsmill stop in one of America’s most historic cities has featured some of the most decorated golfers in the LPGA. The 2008 champion, Annika Sorenstam, won three straight LPGA Championship crowns (2003, 2004 and 2005) and is a three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion (1995, 1996 and 2006). She also owns three Kraft Nabisco victories (2001, 2002 and 2005). For Sorenstam, the 2008 edition of the Kingsmill represents her 72nd tour victory and the point where she crossed the threshold $22 million in career earnings. The Pure Silk Championship has eight other winners with major championships. Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Se Ri Pak hold 22 between them. Along with major champions, you may see first-time winners at the Pure Silk Championship. For Bronte Law, the 2019 Kingsmill was her first LPGA tour win. At the Pure Silk Champtionship, you will have your chance to see some of golf’s greats in action. Get the Pure Silk Championship schedule and more at StubHub.
What is the purse in Pure Silk Championship?
For the 2020 Kingsmill competitors, a $1.3 million purse is at stake. The 2019 Kingsmill Championship had the same purse, with Bronte Law earning $195,000.00 as the victor. The players tied for 75th in the 2019 tournament, Louise Stahle and Christina Kim, each made $2,434.
How many CME Globe points are available at the Pure Silk Championship?
Players on the LPGA Tour compete in events such as the Pure Silk Championship in the "Race to the CME Globe." To the winner of the Kingsmill goes 500 CME points that can prove valuable in qualifying for the CME Group Tour Championship. The winner of this final event captures the title of "Race to the CME Globe" champion. Rather than the Pure Silk Champion or other tour winners getting automatic berths in the CME Group Tour Championship, players enter the season-ending tournament by being among the top 60 in CME Globe points.
Why is the 17th hole in the Pure Silk Championship famous?
Kingsmill’s River Course tests participants of the Pure Silk Championship with 6,379 yards and a par of 71. For the players, the 17th hole on the River Course (a par-3) presents hazards such as the James River, pot bunker and 30-yard trap ready to snare errant tee shots. Three-puts can prove common on the 17th hole with these features. Even the 2014 champion, Lizette Salas, endured a three-put on this hole. If you watch the Pure Silk Championship on the 17th hole, you will also stand and walk where the first settlers from England placed stakes, colonists defeated British forces in 1765 and Confederates fought Union soldiers in the Civil War.
Why was the Pure Silk Championship not held in 2010 or 2011?
The LPGA Tour began play at Kingsmill in 2003, but skipped two years there. Anheuser-Busch ceased its ownership and control of Kingsmill in 2010. With that relinquishment went Michelob Ultra, one of Anheuser-Busch’s brands, as the title sponsor. The hiatus ended when Escalante, Inc. of Texas bought the resort and revived the LPGA Tour’s visit to Kingsmill under the name the Kingsmill Championship. In 2019, Pure Silk became the first title sponsor for this LPGA Tour stop in Williamsburg since 2009.
When is the Pure Silk Championship played?
