In 1982, Panathinaikos BC won the Greek Double and beat the powerful CSKA Moscow in the EuroLeagues Champions Cup. This competition was known as the Inter-Allied Games, and was held in the brand-new Pershing Stadium in Paris. Giorgos returned to Athens and set up a basketball club, which grew into the modern Panathinaikos in 1937. Sadly, one of the founding team members was accused of being a member of the Greek resistance by the occupying Nazis in World War Two and was executed. On a more positive note, Panathinaikos BC have never been relegated, making them one of only two basketball teams in the country to achieve this, the only other being Aris Thessaloniki BC.
