Pale Waves: Manchester indie group riding crest of a wave

Originally going by the name of Creek, Pale Waves are an indie pop group formed in Manchester in 2014. Founded by original members Heather Baron-Gracie (vocals and guitarist) and Ciara Doran (drums) at the University in Manchester, the band was completed by Hugo Silvani (guitar) and Charlie Wood (bass) who replaced former members Ben Bateman and Ryan Marsden.

After releasing a series of early demos in 2015, the band's rise has been swift. Signing to Dirty Hit Records, Pale Waves toured North America and Europe with The 1975 in 2017, were confirmed as part of the annual BBC Sound of 2018 longlist in January 2018 and won the NME Under the Radar award at the NME Awards a month later. Pale Waves' debut EP All the Things I Never Said was released to critical acclaim in February 2018 with an album to follow later in the year. Garnering immediate critical acclaim after the release of their debut single "There's a Honey" in April 2017, Pale Waves went on to play a sold out show at Madison Square Garden shortly after in support of The 1975 on their North American tour. The band's second single "Television Romance" was released in August 2017 with its music video directed by The 1975 lead singer Matty Healy (and later nominated for an NME Award for Best Video). Pale Waves then played 21 shows of their own across North America in November of the same year.

A music video was made for the band's next single "New Years Eve" and released in December 2017, before fourth single "My Obsession" was released a week later. The group then announced a UK tour for early 2018, and achieved 5th place on the BBC Sound of 2018 list on the same day. "The Tide" became Pale Waves' third single on 31 January 2018, with the music video following on 7 February 2018, before the band released their debut EP titled All the Things I Never Said on 19 February 2018; with a full debut album to follow in the summer.
