Mumford and Sons Biography - From West London Pubs to Headlining Arenas
As an invocation of an old family business, this alt-folk band chose their name in 2007 and began to play across West London. Before being signed to a label, Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane toured the UK, making an appearance at Glastonbury Festival in 2008 and following it up with a support slot for Laura Marling in Australia. The DIY approach paid off, as after the group self-funded the recording of first album Sigh No More in 2009, they signed with Island Records. 'Little Lion Man' was released as the lead single, and soon received extensive radio play. After appearances on major television chat shows the group began to grow in popularity, leading to Grammy Award nominations and a Brit Award win for British Album of the Year.
After a North American tour and another appearance at Glastonbury, the band announced second studio album Babel would be released in late 2012 - subsequently becoming the fastest selling record of the year. It was 2015 before the quartet re-emerged with third LP Wilder Mind, which debuted at number one in the UK, US and Australia before the group announced they will tour dates throughout 2016.
