McKennitt officially began her music career in 1985 through the release of her debut record, Elemental. For the next two decades, she proceeded to follow the pattern of releasing a new album approximately every 2 to 3 years, a habit that kept fans hooked. Rather than taking the traditional route of signing to a recording studio, McKennitt made the bold move of producing all of her records on her own label, which she named Quinlan Road.
