Keane Biography - Three Is The Magic Number

Hailing from Battle, East Sussex, the band originally formed as Lotus Eaters in 1993 with Tim Rice-Oxley, drummer Richard Hughes and original member Dominic Scott. They changed their moniker to the one fans know and love today when vocalist Tom Chaplin joined in 1997. After releasing self produced single Call Me What You Like' in 1999 the band struggled to get noticed - and Scott quit, leaving them as a trio.

Not giving up on their dreams, the threesome ploughed on and were eventually spotted by influential Fierce Panda boss Simon Williams, the man who originally signed Coldplay. Releasing 'Everybody's Changing' on the imprint, the three-piece were soon gaining radio airplay and making a name for themselves on the live circuit. By 2004, they would have the second best selling album of the year, their debut Hopes and Fears outsold only by Scissor Sisters' self-titled LP.

Since then, they've gone on to become one of the nation's best loved groups, hitting the top spot with follow-up LPs Under The Iron Sea, Perfect Symmetry and Strangeland, along with their 2010 EP Night Train.
