After a meteoric rise to fame in his late-30s, much-loved Liverpudlian John Bishop has become one of Britain's favourite comedians. A decade after he took up stand-up he became the UK's highest earning comic, and completed his fifth – and biggest – UK tour so far; playing over 60 dates across the country; including London, Edinburgh, Dublin and his native Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of the Winging It tour, Bishop said: "When I start this new tour, it will be three years since my last live show Supersonic, which is the longest break I've ever had. I'm very much looking forward to getting back on the road – there really is nothing like performing stand-up in front of a live audience. The new show is called Winging It, and in some respects having come to comedy relatively late, it sometimes feels like that's what I'm doing in life! But I'm enjoying every minute of it."
Nothing beats seeing a top comedian live – so make sure you check out the latest John Bishop tickets at StubHub and book a brilliant night that's sure to be full of laughs.
John Bishop: from semi-professional footballer to vacuum salesman to British stand-up legend
After winning a string of awards as an amateur, John Bishop entered the world of comedy full-time in 2006; leaving behind a career as a pharmaceutical company salesman. He got a breakthrough of sorts in 2009, appearing on Channel 4's Comedy Showcase and being nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award for his show Elvis Has Left the Building at the Edinburgh Fringe, before more regular TV appearances on the likes of Celebrity Mastermind and sitcom Lunch Monkeys as fireman Terry. Drawing material from his life's experiences – including fatherhood, cycling around the world, playing semi-professional football, and working as a nightclub doorman – he become a panel favourite on shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats,Mock the Week, A League of Their Own, Have I Got News For You and Would I Lie To You?
As his star continued to rise he bagged his own TV show on BBC One – John Bishop's Britain – before moving on to Sky in 2013 to host John Bishop's Only Joking. He capped off that year by releasing his autobiography – How Did All This Happen? – and hosting the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium theatre. A talented musician, Bishop also appeared as a special guest at the Liverpool date of Murs's Never Been Better Tour and performed "Troublemaker" with him.
Despite his TV success, Bishop has always remained a hard-touring stand-up comedian, thrilling audiences around the UK as well as headlining events such as Dublin's Vodaphone comedy festival in 2013. And much to the delight of fans, he continues to book dates around the UK in 2018. Keep your eyes peeled for the latest tour information and book John Bishop stand-up tickets at StubHub.
