IFK Norrköping had its greatest period of success in the 1940's, winning five Swedish Championships and two Svenska Cupen titles. With strong, prolific players such as Gunnar Nordahl, who went on to spend most of his career with AC Milan, and Nils Liedholm (affectionately known as Il Barone by his Italian supporters), who also moved to AC Milan after a three-year spell and 22 goals with IFK Norrköping.
