Haim: chart-topping California girls
Sisters Este, Alana and Danielle Haim cut their teeth performing in a bar room covers band named Rockinhaim with their parents, before eventually breaking away as a sibling trio in 2006. Taking inspiration from classic 1970s Californinan rock – along with folk and 1990s R&B – their three-track EP Forever announced their arrival on the scene and proved an early hit with music bloggers and journalists.
Before long, the girls bagged a deal with Polydor Records and spent the following months performing live to their growing US fan base; sharing stages with the likes of Mumford & Sons and Florence and the Machine. On the other side of the Atlantic, influential Radio 1 DJs Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton helped spread the group's appeal with plenty of airplay for singles such as "Don't Save Me" and "Falling".
In January 2013, the BBC announced that Haim had topped their annual Sound of 2013 music industry poll with the girls appearing at Glastonbury and Leeds and Reading Festival in summer of the same year. Haim's critically acclaimed debut album Days Are Gone followed in the autumn of 2013; charting in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and spawning six singles: "Forever", "Don't Save Me", "Falling", "The Wire", "If I Could Change Your Mind" and "My Song 5".
The album – and Haim as a band – won several "best of" awards towards the end of 2013, and were nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Second album Something to Tell You (2017) was another critical and commerical success; reaching number two in the UK charts.
