In the 2014-15 season, the team missed an opportunity to earn their first-ever promotion to Primera Divison against Lugo. Girona went to the playoffs, but Real Zaragoza stopped them in the semi-final stage despite a 3-0 win for Girona in the first match. In the season after that, they managed to get to the final but, unfortunately, Osasuna was there to stop them in their tracks. Finally in 2017, Girona got to the Primera Division for the first time in the club's 87-year history. Girona FC tickets can be bought or sold via StubHub now.
Gironistes and the Man City connection
On August 23rd, 2017, it was made public that the City Football Group had purchased a large stake in the team. The Girona Football Group, led by Pere Guardiola, has owned another big stake in the club ever since 2015. Pere, of course, is Pep Guardiola's brother. With this connection in mind, the transfers that happened between Manchester City and Girona make a lot of sense. One of these transfers involved signing Ruben Sobrino, a player Girona had been eyeing for a long time. Man City bought Sobrino and loaned him out to Girona that same season. Bringing in some "fresh blood" gave Girona the boost they needed to look for a promotion to the next level. They achieved it in the 2016-17 season, finishing as runners-up to Levante. On the 29th of October, 2017, Girona recorded a historic victory by defeating reigning European Cup winners Real Madrid with the score of 2-1. This allowed them to finish 9th in the overall standings and reach the last 32-team stage in one of the Spanish cup competitions.
Girona FC's long road
To some, Girona FC tickets are worth more than gold, especially in light of the club's recent success. But, as fans of the club probably know best, it wasn't always like this. It was a hard-fought battle to the top and it took 87 years for the team from Catalonia to make it there. Girona FC was formed in 1930 and, since then, they have been playing mostly in the 3rd and 4th divisions, only returning to the second division after a 49-year absence in 2008. You can buy or sell your Girona tickets via StubHub, giving you the chance to visit their stadium and see for yourself if the success of the team will continue to grow - or if Girona FC will fall back into obscurity.
