Fordham Rams TicketsThe Fordham Rams make up the football program at Fordham University in New York. The team played its first game in 1882. Back then, the game of football was played quite differently from the sport that fans know and love today, but Fordham was able to win its first bout against Seton Hall by scoring a single goal. The latter school dropped football from its roster of sports in 1982. At the turn of the century, the main rivals to Fordham were Catholic schools such as Villanova and Georgetown. During the 1920s, the Fordham Rams made major improvements to the team. Starting in 1929, the Rams maintained a winning streak of 14 straight seasons, playing games to huge crowds of more than 50,000 fans. The team kept up this level of success until the football program at Fordham took a break in 1942. Fordham placed in the top 20 during the first national poll. The series was created to honor Frank Cavanaugh, a coach who spent three seasons at Holy Cross and six at Fordham, influencing and improving both teams.

In addition to the poll, two math formulas used to rate college teams during this era also declared Notre Dame the winner. However, Fordham did win a small national title in 1968, returning the Rams to varsity football status the following year. Although the Rams has spent much of its existence as an independent team, it also won conference titles in 2002, 2007 and 2014.
