Federated Auto Parts 400 Tickets
When the field takes the green flag for this year's Federated Auto Parts 400, Martin Truex Jr. will attempt to become the event's first back-to-back winner since 2010. Known among fans as the "Night Race at Richmond" or the "Richmond Fall Race," the competition falls on a Saturday night in September that is usually stifling hot and crackling with drama. Although only Denny Hamlin has won the event twice in the last 10 years, Richmond Raceway has a tradition of repeat winners. Richard Petty won this event five times in a row from 1970 through 1974. Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Jimmie Johnson and Hamlin have won two or more straight. Chevrolet has won this race 17 times to lead all manufacturers. Ford has 15 wins and Toyota has seven, including four of the last five. Richmond has hosted a fall event since 1958. The race moved from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night in 1991. That year it joined Bristol Motor Speedway on NASCAR's summer short track night racing schedule. Federated Auto Parts will sponsor the event for the ninth consecutive year. Known as the "Action Track," Richmond is famous for close racing and frequent contact among short track competitors. The fall race saw an average of 11 caution periods between 2001 and 2016. Recent changes to NASCAR's aerodynamic rules have reduced the number of caution flags.
