The Japanese soccer team’s history
The team as we know it today, F.C. Tokyo, has been around since 1993. But that same team used to be called Tokyo Gas Football Club. The team started in 1935 as a company team. They spent many years working on their game and finally made it to the national leagues in 1991. 1997 was a standout year for FC Tokyo as they finished second place and then went on the win the Japanses Football League the following year! After finishing in second in the 2000 J2 League, they were bumped up to participate in the J1 League. Despite being the newbies in the pro league, FC Tokyo showed their talent, won some matches and finished in 7th place.
Japanese soccer players
Brazilian soccer player, Amaral, was a key player in helping FC Tokyo standout as a talented team. He led the team from the J2 to the J1 league and his fans nicknamed him The King of Tokyo. FC Tokyo has had a share of extremely talented players on their squad over the years. Six of their places also represented Japan in the Soccer World Cup: Teruyuki Moniwa (2006), Yoichi Doi (2006), Yasuyuki Konno (2010), Yuto Nagatomo (2010), Shuichi Gonda (2014), and Masato Morishige (2014). Moniwa, Konno, Nagatomo, and Gonda also partook in the Olympics along with five other Japanese soccer players that were simultaneously playing for FC Tokyo.
The J.League is Japan’s professional football (soccer) league. There are three division, J1 being the first then J2 and J3. Typically there are about 20 teams in both the J1 and J2 leagues and around 15 in the J3 league. All of the divisions are highly competitive and making it to the J1 league is an honor not only in Japan, but in all of Asia. With F.C.
