What is the home field for the Colonels like? The Eastern Kentucky Colonels play all their home games at the Roy Kidd Stadium. It is a 20,000-seat synthetic turf facility built to accommodate the large crowds that often go hand in hand with a Colonels game. Additionally, the stadium is unique for the fact that it also houses a school building on its premises known as the Begley Building, having 36 classrooms and a variety of other learning spaces located beside the various sports-related rooms and equipment.
Who are the best players from the Colonels' history?Given how old Eastern Kentucky University actually is, it should come as no surprise that the school's football team has had hundreds of fantastic players throughout its long history. For example, Markus Thomas from 1989 currently holds a record for rushing 300 yards in a single game as well as the record for most yards rushed over his entire career from 1989 to 1992 (5,532 yards). In 1988, Elroy Harris earned the record for most rushing yards in a single season for accumulating 1,998 yards. More recently, Bennie Coney got the record for most passing yards in a single game in 2015 for passing a total of 464 yards while the team played against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
Do the Colonels have any rivals within the league? The Colonels have two official rivals, those being the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Morehead State Eagles. For the former, their rivalry dates back to 1914 when the first “ ”Battle of the Bluegrass“ ” was fought, though the future of said rivalry is put into question given Western's move to a different division. The Murray State Racers are also sometimes known as Eastern's rivals alongside Morehead.
Who is the head coach of the Colonels? The current head coach of the Colonels is Mark Elder, who first began during the 2015 season. In total, there have been 14 head coaches since the beginning of the Colonels, the first of which was James Park in 1909. Only a year later, in 1910, he was replaced by Clyde Wilson, then by Charles Keith in 1912. Ben Bernard took over from 1913 to 1916 before retiring, Clyde McCoy taking the spot in 1919. In 1922, George Hembree became coach before giving the spot to Charles Hughes in 1929, who in turn passed on the title to Rome Rankin in 1935. 1947 brought Tom Samuels before switching to Glenn Presnell in 1954. 1964 brought Roy Kidd, who became the namesake for the Colonels' home stadium, finally retiring in 2002 to be replaced by Danny Hope in 2003, then by Dean Hood in 2008.
What are some of the Colonels' most anticipated games of the current season? There are a number of exciting games set for the 2019 football season. The first of these is in September when the Colonels face off against the Louisville Cardinals. After that, you have the Hall of Fame Game against the Tennessee State Tigers.
