Britain's national pastime arrived in the county of Durham sometimes during the 1700s although the first official entry of a Durham County team traces back to 1876. Durham County cricket club won its first trophy in 2007 winning the Friends Provident Trophy and would follow that up with its first County Championship crown defeating Kent in 2008 and prove its mettle by winning consecutive titles beating Nottinghamshire in 2009 before a delirious home crowd at Emirates Riverside Ground with a third County Championship to follow in 2013.
