Division II Football Championship TicketsIn 2018, the undefeated Valdosta State Blazers secured a place in the NCAA DII National Championship playoff by overtaking Notre Dame. They ventured to McKinney, Texas, to battle the equally undefeated Ferris State Bulldogs to win the team's fourth NCAA Division II title. From 2009 through 2018, the Blazers made Valdosta University proud by garnering seven Gulf South Conference championships, five NCAA Division II Regional championships and four NCAA Division II National championships. The Blazers are getting ready for their next season, which will no doubt be exciting and a thrill for Georgia football fans. Players returning in hopes of gaining another championship include senior Dallas Anthony, junior Jacob Baker, senior Joseph Barbara, junior James Barnes and junior Kenny Benjamin. The Valdosta State Blazers are scheduled to compete against its first opponent during the first week in September, which takes place in Albany, Georgia. How old is the Georgia Valdosta State Blazer football team?The Valdosta State Blazers were founded in 1982 thanks to the influence and majority vote by the student body. Jim Goodman coached the team its first year, which ended with a record of 5 – 5 - 1. But by 1986, the team enjoyed its first winning season and a 9 - 2 record led by Jessie Tuggle, who was deemed an All-American player. One decade later, the Blazers won its first division championship and celebrated being the first school in the South Conference to gain the title. Over the years, its victories continued. Jessie Tuggle went on to become a linebacker for the NFL Atlanta Falcons from 1987 to 2000. Quarterback Chris Hatcher was awarded the Harlon Hill Trophy in 1994 and served as the university's head coach from 2000 to 2006.

From 1973 to 1975, the games were played in Sacramento, California. Wichita Falls, Texas, hosted the games in 1976 and 1977. The championship moved to Longview, Texas, in 1978 and onto Alburquerque, New Mexico, in 1979 and 1980. The 2018 games were held at McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center in McKinney, Texas. McKinney will also play host to the division championship games for another three seasons. The championship games have also been broadcasted on ESPN since 1994.
