In the middle of a driving rainstorm in the 1996 MLS Cup, Eddie Pope helped United complete a stirring second-half comeback against the LA Galaxy with a header off a free kick by Marco Etcheverry. Etcheverry is fondly remembered by fans because he helped lead DC United to two MLS Cups and had a prominent role in the team's first MLS Cup victory, while his teammate Jaime Moreno is arguably one of the greatest United players of all time.
