After finishing in fifth place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS the Columbus Crew are ready to put it all together during a deep run to the MLS Cup Finals. One of the original members of Major League Soccer, the Columbus Crew have long been one of the most popular and successful franchises in the MLS. After reaching the MLS Cup Finals in 2008 when they defeated the New York Red Bulls, the Crew have been on a mission to make a return to the Finals and bring home their second Cup. This could very well be the year that the Crew accomplish their goal as they finished the regular season on an upswing and should be able to enter the playoffs with both confidence and momentum.
It all starts with advancing past the Eastern Conference Knockout Round in the MLS Playoffs and the Crew will surely have their hands full trying to make it out of the talented Eastern Conference. Should they get past the Knockout Round the Crew will move on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals where they will be playing at least one game at home at Columbus Crew Stadium. Following that it would be on to the Eastern Conference Finals where once again one leg of the playoff will be held in Columbus. Sunday December 7th marks the MLS Cup Final which could also be held at Columbus Crew Stadium so the Crew could have a significant home field advantage should they make it that far. The Team
The Columbus Crew first became a part of the Ohio sports ticket market with the commencement of their inaugural game in 1996. Fans wear black and yellow to home games to show their support for the beloved Crew, one of the most popular teams in the MLS. The Crew are also no strangers to success as they won the Lamar Hunt Trophy in 2002 and the Supporters' Shield in 2004 and 2008. The Crew won the MLS Cup in 2008 and have been looking to win another one very year since. This season Columbus had a strong regular season that sees them making a return to the playoffs after not qualifying in 2013. There is definitely an air of excitement surrounding Gregg Berhalter's team and the head coach has proven he is not afraid to shake things up in order to pull out a big win.

Columbus Crew Major League Soccer
The Columbus Crew play in the MLS, or Major League Soccer, which is the top soccer league in North America and is also a member of CONCACAF. Nineteen teams in the league compete during the regular season which gets underway each March, all of them hoping to earn a spot in the playoffs. Every team plays thirty-four regular season games with the regular season champion being awarded the Supporters' Shield. The top ten teams, five from each conference, go on to the playoffs with the last two teams standing competing for the the MLS Cup in December. The first season of the MLS was in 1996 with ten founding members. Plans for establishing the league began as far back as 1988 when U.S. Soccer made an agreement with FIFA to have plans to get a Division I professional soccer league in place in order to be allowed to host the 1994 World Cup. The league is granted a spot for three American teams in the CONCACAF Champions League while another team has the chance to qualify via the U.S. Open Cup. Year after year MLS gains more fans and it stands as one of the five major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.
Trivia
Columbus Cat is the mascot of the Crew which were given their name as the result of a fan contest back when the team was first established. Over the years the team and its supporters gave rallied around the name the Crew which now is said to refer not only to the team but to its fans and everyone who gathers together, bonding over their support of Columbus.
