Carl Frampton Tickets
Carl Frampton to fight Nonito Donaire at SSE Arena on 21 April
Born in 1987, Carl Frampton is a super-bantamweight and featherweight boxer from Northern Ireland. He has been the world champion in both weight categories and, in 2017, was ranked as number two in the world by several boxing organisations, including the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
After being out of the ring for 10 months, Frampton won his comeback fight against Mexican Horacio Garcia in November and will fight former four-weight world champion Nonito Donaire at the SSE Arena in Belfast next, on 21 April.
The 35-year-old Filipino is expected to provide much stiffer opposition for Frampton, and you can see the fight live at ringside when you buy Carl Frampton vs Nonito Donaire at StubHub.
Carl Frampton's amateur career
Initially fighting under the auspices of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, Frampton represented the Midland Boxing Club in the Tiger's Bay area of Belfast. As an amateur, he took the Irish senior flyweight title in 2005, winning over 100 bouts before his professional career.
One of the final fights Frampton won as an amateur was when he gained the Irish featherweight title by beating David Oliver Joyce in 2009. Frampton chose never to represent Great Britain during his amateur career, explaining that he'd been looked after by Irish boxing's setup since he was a schoolboy.
Carl Frampton's professional career
Tickets for Frampton's fights began to become sought after towards the end of his amateur career, opening the way to professional boxing. His debut professional fight took place at the Olympia, in Liverpool, and ended in a victory as he beat the Hungarian fighter Sandor Szinavel with a knockout blow in the second round in June 2009. Two further fights were arranged for the remainder of that year, one in England and the other at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Northern Ireland. He won both and the boxing world began to take notice of the emerging star.
After a series of fights in 2010, Frampton won the then vacant British Celtic super-bantamweight title at Ulster Hall in Belfast. He then took the Commonwealth super-bantamweight title in a bout against the Australian boxer Mark Quon. Later, in May 2012, Frampton won one of the big prizes. In Nottingham, he beat a quality Mexican boxer in the shape of Raul Hirales, to gain the IBF Inter-Continental super-bantamweight title. This was backed up the following year when he took the European super-bantamweight title, as well.
In 2014, Frampton took the IBF super-bantamweight title in front of excited home fans at the Titanic Quarter in Belfast. He subsequently gained the WBA super-bantamweight championship, thereby unifying the two titles. Switching weight categories, Frampton then won WBA (Super) featherweight title in 2016, at a bout held in New York City.
Frampton has suffered only one loss in his professional career and is looking to extend that run against Nonito Donaire in April. Don't miss out! Buy Carl Frampton vs Nonito Donaire tickets at StubHub.
