The longstanding journeymen of Brescia come good
While the club has spent some time at the top tier of Italian football, Serie A, it has spent most of its existence in the second division, Serie B. In fact, it has held the record for both the most consecutive number seasons there and the total number of seasons played in the league by any team. All of this changed at the beginning of the millennium however, when the club signed legendary Italian footballing veteran, Roberto Baggio. This paid off very quickly, with the team reaching the final of the Intertoto Cup in 2001, but unfortunately losing out to Paris Saint-Germain FC. As a result of this improvement the team of this era became known as “Baggio’s Brescia".
Get Brescia match tickets for local rivalries
The club has its fiercest and longest rivalry with its neighbouring team, Atalanta FC, also based in Lombardy. While they’ve tasted little cup success, their most successful year of the 20th century was 1994 when they won the Anglo-Italian Cup. They made a brief return to Serie A in 2010 when they earned promotion by beating Torino FC on aggregate. They were relegated again the next year but bounced back once more in 2018. That’s been the up and down story of this proud Italian team – they’re well worth watching if you’re in the region – simply buy your Brescia tickets on StubHub.
