Although Bramall Lane was originally constructed as a cricket ground, it has been home to Sheffield United (fondly nicknamed "The Blades" on account of the crossed swords on their logo) since 1889. The first football match at Bramall Lane was actually played in 1862, between Sheffield FC and Hallam FC, and the stadium also hosted numerous international matches - mainly between Scotland and England - before a home team was especially created for the venue.
