Justin Vernon rose from the undergrowth of wintry Wisconsin to hit the big time, creating and fronting this cherished group, and spearheading the folk rock renaissance of the 2000s. Following the break-up in 2007 of his band since high school, DeYarmond Edison, the end of a relationship with a long-term girlfriend and a battle with a debilitating viral disease, Justin Vernon retreated to his father's cabin in Wisconsin. It was here that the seeds for his brilliant new project were sown, named after an intentionally misspelt translation of the French for 'good winter'. After creating his nine track LP For Emma, Forever Ago in just three months, Vernon toured, joined by Michael Noyce on guitar, Matthew McCaughan on drums and Sean Carey on piano, whilst their seminal debut album gained critical acclaim and was ranked in The Rolling Stone's Top 100 Albums of All Time.

Their haunting and heartfelt tracks including 'Skinny Love' and 'Flume' led to the great success of the Wisconsin group and a Grammy Award winning sophomore album Bon Iver, Bon Iver. With this second album, Vernon's project grew with the help of saxophonists Mike Lewis and Colin Stetson and pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz, and their sound changed: with Vernon's bold vision, the indie-folk band boast impressive intricacies and depth to their music, reflected in the success of this album hitting number two in the Billboard Chart.
