This iconic Middlesex-born singer went solo after his punk band, Generation X, split up in 1981. Moving to New York and embracing New Wave, he found fame with 'Dancing With Myself' - a new version of the song he released with his old band - and became one of the most-viewed faces on MTV.

His 1982 self-titled debut album was seminal, featuring the classic 'White Wedding'. Success continued throughout the 1980s until his fortunes took a downturn and albums such as 1993's Cyberpunk performed poorly, although he moved into acting with a cameo in the comedy The Wedding Singer in 1998. The noughties, though, saw his star shine once more, with Devil's Playground garnering critics' praise and 2014's Kings and Queens of the Underground completing the comeback.
