Tony-nominated Broadway hit
Written by Terence McNally and boasting music and lyrics from Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, Anastasia brings the story of the same-named 1997 animation from the screen to the stage. The tale centres on Anya, an amnesiac orphan who's manipulated by two ruthless con men into capitalising on her uncanny likeness to Anastasia Nikolaevna, a missing Russian Grand Duchess rumoured to have escaped her family's execution several years prior. The musical first opened at Connecticut's Hartford Stage before transferring to Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre in March 2017 where it received glowing reviews from the press and picked up two Tony Award nominations, as well as accolades at the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards. The original cast included Christy Altomare as the leading lady Anya, Manoel Felciano as Bolshevik general Gleb Vaganov, Derek Klena and John Bolton as con artists Dmitry and Vlad, and Mary Beth Peil as Anastasia's grandmother Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna. Great songs old and new
Anastasia offers plenty for both newcomers to the story and those familiar with its source material. Six songs from the original film have been kept in the musical, including "Paris Holds the Key (To Your Heart)", "Once Upon a December" and the Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated "Journey to the Past". But these are also surrounded by 16 entirely original compositions, including "The Last Dance of the Romanovs", "We'll Go From There" and "The Countess and the Common Man", as well as several brand-new characters created especially for the new production. Splitting the two acts between Soviet Russia and Paris, Anastasia the musical also moved to Spain in October 2018 where it enjoyed a run at Madrid's Coliseum Theatre, and shortly after headed out on a U.S. tour which started at New York's Proctor's Theatre. Don't miss out on your chance to watch this magical take on a much-loved classic, and book your Anastasia tickets on StubHub. You can also purchase tickets for several other classic animations adapted for the stage such as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Shrek the Musical.
