A promising start for a new ice hockey franchise
The ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) is a mid-level ice hockey league based in Princeton, New Jersey. It’s a tier below the American Hockey League and is comprised of teams from all over the United States and Canada. The Adirondack Thunder first competed in the ECHL in the 2015–16 season. Out of Glens Falls, New York, the franchise was established to replace the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, who were relocated to California to become the Stockton Heat. In their first season, the squad made the playoffs, defeating the Manchester Monarchs against all odds in the first round before losing out to the South Carolina Stingrays later on. Nevertheless, they became the first Glens Falls team to win a series in the playoffs since 1994. As such, the franchise breathed new life into the area’s lust for ice hockey and ignited a burst of passion into its fans. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a live game, where you can feel the cold bite of the ice on your cheeks and hear the skates slicing into it as players whizz past. Make sure to look out for upcoming dates and buy Adirondack Thunder tickets via StubHub before they sell out!
A new lease of life and bitter rivalries
In the midst of their second season, the Adirondack Thunder were sold by the privately-owned Calgary Sports and Entertainment to a local coalition. For the 2017–18 season, the franchise became the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and hired Brad Tapper as their head coach who, after taking his team to the conference finals, moved to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins as an assistant coach. Alex Loh replaced him for the following season, where vicious rivalries played out once again. Look out for games against the Manchester Monarchs—the Thunder’s main rivals—or the Maine Mariners, Reading Royals, and Worcester Railers for a particularly tense matchup. It’s not just an experience of sport, it’s an experience of American culture, where over 4,000 fans pack into the Cool Insuring Arena to cheer on their team. So, grab yourself a seat and take it all in! You can buy or sell Adirondack Thunder tickets right here on StubHub now!
