X Japan Biography - Japanese Legends to Make Their Return to the Stage
Formed in Chiba in 1982, this heavy metal band originally found their success on drummer Yoshiki's own independent label. Initially known as 'X', the group coined a progressive sound that would define a Japanese rock generation, as they broke through with the release of their first official album Blue Blood. A change in the line-up in 1992 also meant a change of name and the musicians quickly became one of Japan's most highly renowned musical acts, selling out concerts all over the country and drawing in huge crowds. Not resting on their laurels, the band are also known for changing up their sound, noted in 1996 with the release of Dahlia, which included more ballads than the speed metal for which they had earned renown. 1997 saw them perform their last concert in Tokyo.
After the tragic news that guitarist Hideto Matsumoto - known as 'hide' - had been found dead, the band moved away from the public eye, only to reunite ten years later in 2007. New song I.V. went straight in at the top of the charts and 2010 and 2011 saw both a US and world tour, as the band found their feet again in the music scene. Excitement is building for their return in March 2016 for 'X Day', a one-off spectacular show at Wembley Arena.
