Formed by ever-present Andy Powell

Formed from the ashes of Empty Vessels, the original Wishbone Ash line-up of vocalist/bassist Martin Turner, guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner, and drummer Steve Upton first came together in 1969. A year later, the band landed a support slot with Deep Purple, signed to Decca Records and released their eponymous debut LP. Follow-ups ‘Pilgrimage' and ‘Argus' further developed their twin guitar-heavy sound, with the latter peaking at No.3 in their native UK, while 1973's self-produced ‘Wishbone Four' helped to consolidate their new-found status as arena headliners. Following the departure of Ted Turner, the first of many personnel changes over the years, Wishbone Ash moved to the US and embraced a softer rock vibe on ‘Locked In'. They returned to more familiar fare with 1978's ‘No Smoke Without Fire' before Martin Turner left to be replaced by King Crimson frontman John Wetton. This incarnation of Wishbone Ash recorded several LPs throughout the following decade, before the original line-up reunited for 1987's ‘Nouveau Calls'. Powell remained the only ever-present member during the 1990s, making a surprise detour into dance music along the way, and has remained the band's lynchpin throughout their 21st Century career. 50 years on and still going strong

Half a century on from their formation and Wishbone Ash still remain a must-see live act. Guided by founding member Andy Powell, the band are constantly on the road, whether it's performing their own headlining shows, hitting the festival circuit, or staging their very own cruise across the waters of the USA.
