Wheatus - Punk Rockers Announce UK Tour and Support Slot for Busted

These teenage dirtbag rockers are back with a sixth studio album in 2016, a support slot on the Busted Pigs Can Fly tour and headline tour dates across the UK in May and June. After shooting to fame in 2000 with their breakthrough single, the New Yorkers' self-titled debut album hit the top ten in the UK and they have since retained a loyal fan base on both sides of the Atlantic. These punk-poppers are known for their deliciously tongue-in-cheek lyrics and are sure to bring some new material to the stage for their highly anticipated return - said to be influenced by '80s hair metal. Wheatus Biography - Highly Anticipated Album Set For Release in 2016

Brought together by Brendan B. Brown and his brother Peter in 1995, the group took their name from 'wedus', a nickname given to the pair when they were children. Enlisting Rich Liegey and Phillip A. Jimenez, the band played in local venues before hiring entertainment attorney Ray Maiello as manager, who helped them gain a record contract with Columbia off the back of their self-produced debut. The album proved particularly popular in the UK after its 2000 release, with debut single 'Teenage Dirtbag' winning them a number two hit and follow-up 'A Little Respect' landing at number three. Despite this initial success though, the band became embroiled in troubles with the label, affecting the release of sophomore effort Hand Over Your Loved Ones in the UK. They went on to form their own label Montauk Mantis and re-released the second album under the name Suck Fony. Very cryptic...

Following multiple line-up changes and the release of Too Soon Monsoon the band set out on a collaborative tour, alongside the likes of Bowling for Soup and Son of Dork in 2007, before heading back to the studio, prompting a return to their original sound with 2013 LP The Valentine. In the same year boyband One Direction covered their eponymous hit 'Teenage Dirtbag', opening up the '90s punk rockers to a whole new group of fans. They burst back into the festival spotlight in 2014 at British Summer Time in Hyde Park, performing a version of their defining hit with MC Lars.
