Washed Out Tickets
Born in 1982, Ernest Weatherly Greene Junior is better known by his stage name; Washed Out. An American singer, songwriter and record producer, Washed Out performs in several pop genres, including dream pop, synth-pop and chillwave. Based in Athens, Georgia, the performer is known for his drowsy and often distorted take on dance-influenced pop, which has a unique edge to it. Although many fans consider chillwave to be his best style because of its retro approach and lo-fi sounds, the performer has gone on record as saying that he is equally influenced by the sounds of hip-hop. In 2012, the singer provided a track for the tribute album Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac, which got to number 15 in the US Top Rock Albums chart.
Washed Out's career milestones
After gaining a degree from the University of Georgia, Greene went on to study for a Master of Library and Information Science degree. Unable to find employment as a librarian, he decided to start work on music from his bedroom at his parents' home. Initial experiments with rock music under the name Lee Weather got nowhere, but in 2009, he switched to chillwave under the moniker of Washed Out. Uploading tracks to social media sites, Washed Out soon became something of an underground Internet sensation.
In August 2009, Washed Out released the first of two EPs for that year. High Times, which featured tracks such as “Good Luck” and “Phone Call” was followed up in October by Life of Leisure. The latter was put out on the Mexican Summer label, based in Brooklyn, New York City. Soon, Washed Out performed in New York for the first time, having only undertaken a handful of gigs before then.
In April 2011, Washed Out announced that he had moved labels to Sub Pop and it was on this basis that his debut album would be released. Within and Without came out in July of that year, reaching number 26 in the US album charts. It also sold well in the UK, Norway and the Netherlands. In December, Washed Out came to the UK and performed at a notable festival gig that was staged in Minehead.
Washed Out's second album hit the shelves in August 2013. The first single taken from Parocosm was called “It All Feels Right”. A second single, “Don't Give Up”, was also released. Four years passed before a third album appeared. Recorded for a new label, Stones Throw, Mister Mellow was released in the summer of 2017.
