It must be love!
Tennis is a fast-paced sport played in which athletes use a long-handled racket to hit a hollow felt-covered ball made of rubber back and forth across the court. Should a player fail to successfully return their opponent's serve, the resulting 15 points are awarded against them. The term "love" in tennis represents a nil or non-score, the scores are called out during the games and you might hear "15 – love" or "love – 45" and so on, the server’s points being called first. The game can be played with two or four players, with categories for individual and double females and male players, as well as mixed gender doubles.
Past heroes of the sport include Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles, Björn Borg, sisters Venus and Serena Williams and, of course, who can forget the fractious John McEnroe? Game, set and match your best seats
The expression for a triumphant achievement in life, "game, set and match" derives from the game of tennis. When the final game ends, the judge, known as an "umpire" will make the declaration of "game and match" or "game, set and match" to the overall winner. Whilst it is believed that tennis originated in 18th century France, the game has proved to be a popular sport played throughout the world. Tennis is often best associated with the annual English summer contest held in Wimbledon where it is played on grass courts as opposed to the hard surfaced courts used in the Games.
