Shooting is one of the original nine events included in the first edition of the revived Games in Athens in 1896. At that edition of the Games, there were five shooting events, all open only to men. The 2020 Games in Tokyo will welcome refugee athletes as competitors in some events, and Shooting is one of them – a team of three refugees are being coached and trained by a former gold medallist and are hoping to reach the required minimum standard to be selected as part of a team of refugee competitors or in order to join a national team at the Asaka Shooting Range on the outskirts of Tokyo.
