Tokyo Summer Games 2020: Modern Pentathlon Tickets
2020 Games in Tokyo: Modern Pentathlon – five events in one!
StubHub is the place to buy and sell tickets for the 2020 Games in Tokyo: Modern Pentathlon, most definitely the most eclectic event with its five very different disciplines, namely fencing, swimming, riding, shooting and running.
The Pentathlon changes but its ethos remains the same
The Pentathlon has changed over time and the range of skills required has increased. The Pentathlon originally comprised running, long-jumping, javelin, discus and wrestling – skills that reflected the demands of military training at the time. 2020 Games in Tokyo: Greco Roman Wrestling is still an event at the Games, however it is no longer part of the Modern Pentathlon. These links to the founding principles of defence and combat actually serve to explain the format of the Modern Pentathlon. It was recreated in 1912 by taking the skills required of soldiers at the time, including swordplay and horsemanship. At first, the Modern Pentathlon was held over five days, one day each for fencing, swimming, show-jumping, pistol-shooting and cross-country running, however the time dedicated to the event was reduced to a single day in 1980, making it more similar in that way to the original Pentathlon. A more recent development is the switch to laser pistols in 2012, which removed the need for lead bullets and has made the shooting element of the Modern Pentathlon much more eco-friendly. The finale of the Modern Pentathlon is now referred to as the "laser-run" because it combines four sessions of laser pistol shooting interspersed with four 800m runs (to make 3200 m in total). Each competitor’s starting position depends on their aggregate score in the previous three disciplines. Purchasing tickets for the 2020 Games in Tokyo: Modern Pentathlon on StubHub (and retaining the option of reselling them if necessary) gives spectators access to three days of five very different sports.
