Get Ready to Sin With Theatre of Hate
The London band, Theatre of Hate, has been described as post-punk, Gothic rock, punk and death rock. Though the band has broken up and been put back together more than once, and the group members have moved on to other projects, over the years, lead singer Kirk Brandon has put the band back together. This band has built their reputation on putting on great live shows. Though faced with break ups and make ups, Theatre of Hate has never truly gone, as fans can't let them go.
Schedule
Theatre of Hate Tickets are available for upcoming shows at King Tuts in Glasgow, O2 Academy in Newcastle, Brudenell Social in Leeds, Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, Concord 2 in Brighton and The Garage in London.
Trivia
Theatre of Hate came together for a week long tour for the 25th anniversary of the album Westworld, ending the tour at the Carling Academy Islington. The original lineup of members was available for the tour, with the exception of Stan Stammers, who was replaced by Craig Adams (former member of The Cult, The Mission and The Sisters of Mercy). Theatre of Hate then came back five years later to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Westworld. This time concerts were held in Crewe, Bristol and London.
Band
Known as a post-punk band, Theatre of Hate was formed in London in 1980. The original band was comprised of singer-songwriter Kirk Brandon, bassist Stan Stammers, guitarist Steve Guthrie, drummer Luke Rendle and saxophonist John Lennard. Current band members are Kirk Brandon, Stan Stammers, Jon Lennard, Mike Kelly and Adrian Portas. The band broke up in 1982 and Kirk and Stan formed the group Spear of Destiny, though the curtains haven't closed completely on Theatre of Hate. The band has popped up over the years to play some special gigs, and new songs are currently being written and recorded. Fans are looking forward to Theatre of Hate's new album, which should be released at the end of this year.
Breakthrough
Theatre of Hate garnered a lot of attention for being a brilliant live band. Due to this a live LP was released of one of their concerts - He Who Dares Wins (Live at the Leeds Warehouse). This breakthrough LP is now considered to be rarity and hard to find.
Hit Albums
The very first Theatre of Hate single, "Original Sin," which was released in November of 1980, reached number five on the UK Indie Chart. The band became recognised as a great group to see live, and their Debut LP in 1981, He Who Dares Wins (Live at the Warehouse Leeds), continued to support their reputation. After that, another concert recording was released Live at Lyceum. Theatre of Hate's first non-live album was called Westworld, produced by Mick Jones of The Clash. It reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart and had the Top 40 Single, "Do you Believe in the Westworld." This song has appeared on many compilation albums and is still played on international radio.
Show Experience
Regardless of how much time has passed and how old the band members are, Theatre of Hate is like warriors upon the stage. Their music is raw and passionate, and their energetic playing makes the audience get hyped up and thrash around to the music. For as long as Theatre of Hate chooses to reunite and put on shows, their fans will greet them with eager anticipation.
