The Wave Pictures Tickets
Making Memories with The Wave Pictures
Upbeat, pop rock driven by witty lyrics have forebears like Paul Simon, The Smiths and Jonathan Richmond, who have influenced young acts trying to follow in their footsteps. However, it's a tough style to pull off, requiring just the right combination of catchy pop hooks and excellent songwriting. The English trio The Wave Pictures manages both these criteria with gusto.
As United Kingdom natives, the Wave Pictures have been regularly touring their home country since they first formed in 1998. However, due to the fact that they have been a band for more than 15 years to date, the band also regularly tours large and small venues around Europe, from the Lexington in London to Antje Aklesund in Berlin, Germany to Rocas in Luxembourg. With multiple gigs per week, The Wave Pictures tickets are available for a wide range of upcoming shows.
In 2009, The Wave Pictures were the backing band for famed Austin, Texas singer/songwriter Daniel Johnston as he toured the United Kingdom, playing the gamut of songs from his 30 plus year career. More recently in 2013, they were the featured band at a Daniel Johnston tribute night in which Johnston himself made an appearance and played with them. There is little doubt Johnston has had a huge effect on the music of The Wave Pictures.
The group was originally called Blind Summit when they first formed in 1998, while they were still in high school. However, the original drummer Hugh J. Noble declared he no longer wanted to play in a band and wanted to study philosophy instead, heading off to university at Exeter. This spurned the name change of the band to The Wave Pictures and ultimately landed Jonny "Huddersfield" Helm as the permanent percussion replacement. This core group has been together ever since.
After gaining something of a cult following in the United Kingdom and playing with other successful small acts with the same do-it-yourself mentality--like Darren Hayman, the Mountain Goats, the aforementioned Daniel Johnston and Herman Dune--The Wave Pictures were signed in 2006 to the label Moshi Moshi. After 8 years, the trio finally had someone else doing a lot of the business and promotion, so they could concentrate on writing and recording new music.
The Wave Pictures seventh album, "Instant Coffee Baby," released through their label Moshi Moshi, gained a tremendous amount of attention from fans and critics alike, prompting The Guardian to compare them to Suede, The Smiths and Morrissey. The album also received a 7.8 out of 10 from the esteemed music publication Pitchfork and four stars out of five from NME. Since the release of "Instant Coffee Baby," The Wave Pictures have only seemed to become more prolific since, releasing a new full length album each year.
With pop rock songs that are lyrically driven, The Wave Pictures' shows are light and fun, perfect for a smaller venue with friends and true fans of the band. While the band is musically gifted and can certainly rock out from time to time, it's an environment where singing along is welcomed and often encouraged, with the veteran performers often playing off the crowd's enthusiasm.
