The Nutcracker is one of those timeless holiday productions that many people attend every year as a Christmastime tradition. The stage is set at the Warner Theatre in Washington with Clara and her young brother Fritz enjoying themselves at their Godfather Drosselmeyer's 1882 Georgetown mansion where his annual Christmas Eve party is in full swing. Clara receives a special gift from Drosselmeyer in the form of a beautiful holiday nutcracker. Jealous of his sister's new toy, Fritz steals the nutcracker away and breaks him. When Clara retrieves the toy later in the night beneath the glow of her family Christmas tree, the room suddenly fills with rats and their king in an epic battle against toy soldiers and the renewed, now full-sized, nutcracker. After the toy turns into a young man, he and Clara set off on an adventure through a land full of cherry blossoms, fairies and so much more. The Nutcracker With a Twist
The Washington Ballet puts its own historical spin on the classic story of The Nutcracker by adding historical figures as guests to Drosselmeyer's party and even changing some of the location names and styles in the production to fit the Washington DC theme. Rather than traveling to the Land of Sweets, for example, this production of The Nutcracker visits springtime and The Land of Cherry Blossoms instead.Where can I buy The Nutcracker tickets?
