The Gloaming Tickets
The Gloaming redefine traditional Irish music
From the first melancholic notes of the fiddle solo on their rendition of ‘The Sailor's Bonnet', it was clear that The Gloaming was no ordinary band. The song itself perfectly captures the improvisational skills, harmonious timing and creative interpretation employed by its members to extract the timeless beauty of traditional Irish music. Innovation of a separate genre of music
If there is such a thing as a "superband" of traditional Irish music, then The Gloaming surely is it. Master fiddle player Martin Hayes and fellow virtuoso Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh join Dennis Cahill on guitar, Thomas Bartlett on piano and Iarla O'Lionaird on vocals and together, this group has created a sublime signature by blending the traditional Irish sound with elements of folk, jazz, blues and a smattering of rock and roll to produce what has come to be described by critics worldwide as "a separate genre of music". The debut of The Gloaming in 2011 at the National Concert Hall (NCH) in Dublin was an unparalleled success and hailed as a tremendous achievement in the annals of contemporary music. After playing the finest concert halls in London, New York and Amsterdam, the group released its self-titled album ‘The Gloaming' in 2014, which became one of the biggest draws in Ireland and a memorable show at Royal Albert Hall found them performing with Irish luminaries such as Glen Hansard, Imelda May and Elvis Costello. The enormous cultural impact of The Gloaming
After winning the Choice Music Prize for Ireland's best band in 2015, the band issued its second album, ‘The Gloaming 2' in 2016 after less than a week in the studio. The record enjoyed the same glowing reviews as its predecessor, reaching number 1 on the album charts in Ireland. This in turn led to further sold out shows at the National Concert Hall in addition to such venerable institutions as Royal Festival Hall in London, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the United States and Philharmonie de Paris in France. A compilation of works selected from their residency at the NCH became the basis for ‘Live at the NCH', which hit number 3 on the Irish charts once more to superior reviews. With their music described more as classical chamber music than anything else, one can understand why their performances are held at the world's best concert halls, such is the significance of their impact on the cultural landscape of Ireland and the diaspora.
