The Fashion Awards London Tickets
Celebrating the best in UK-based talent as well as that of international fashion design, The Fashion Awards London has been running every year since 1989. When it first started, the idea was to showcase top British designers at an awards ceremony that highlighted their skill. Over the years, various venues have been used to present awards to designers and others in the fashion industry who have made an outstanding contribution to the sector in the previous 12 months. The awards ceremony is also the main fundraising event for the British Fashion Council’s Education Foundation. Part of the ethos of the organisers is to create a direct legacy from the awards. Their stated aim is to 'secure a sustainable lifeline' for the next generations of creative people in the fashion industry who might otherwise be put off due to the costs associated with studying for it.
The Fashion Awards London's format and history
Due to the number of models, designers and famous interested parties, The Fashion Awards in London is a highly glamorous event. It regularly attracts much attention in the UK's press, as well as featuring on news bulletins on TV. The awards have attracted some high-level sponsors in the past. The 2017 event was sponsored by the jewellery firm Swarovski, for example. Due to the success of London Fashion Week and The Fashion Awards, which tend to be held toward the end of the calendar year, the UK's capital is now regarded as one of the so-called 'big four' of fashion cities; the others being Milan, New York and Paris.
The British Fashion Council give out awards in a number of categories. Among the most prestigious are the British Designer of the Year and the individual deemed to have made the greatest Outstanding Contribution to Fashion in that year. Given the nature of the event, there are also a few awards given to the most-fashionable celebrities in a variety of fields. In 2016, there were no less than 42 nominees across all categories, with 15 individuals named as winners. That year, the event was held at the Royal Albert Hall and around 4,000 guests were able to attend. The organisers aim to raise in the region of £10 million at each ceremony for their charitable foundation.
As well as International Designer of the Year, the British Fashion Council give awards for Menswear and Womenswear Designers. An award is also given to the International Model of the Year. Past winners of that prize include Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Georgia May Jagger and Gigi Hadid. Famous designers to have won prizes at past events include Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Ralph Lauren.
