The Chainsmokers: meteoric rise sees twosome become third highest paid DJs in the world – with earnings of a cool $38m in 2017
When mutual friends recommended aspiring musicians Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall went on a blind man-date because of their shared appreciation of EDM, little did they know a few years later they would be setting charts on fire across the globe. After joining forces in 2012, it didn't take long for the pair to find an audience for their sound, quickly being booked at various nightclubs around Manhattan and Long Island. One of the hottest duos in music right now, The Chainsmokers construct a completely unique brand of electro by fusing hard-hitting beats with indie and pop melodies.
Just before playing a gig in Miami, they came up with the idea for "#Selfie" – a self-deprecating track to poke fun at people who go to clubs just to take pictures of themselves. With the help of some social media magic and a few celebrity selfies, the video for the song went viral and has since notched up millions of views on YouTube. The hit-makers have gone on to release bestselling tracks such as "Until You Were Gone" featuring Tritonal and Emily Warren, 2015's "Roses", "Don't Let Me Down" (the duo's first top five hit in the United States) and 2017 smash hit "Something Just Like This" with Coldplay.
Three more singles were released ahead of their debut album Memories...Do Not Open in April 2017, with the band plotting a huge European tour to promote it. Make sure you catch these luminaries in a one off performance at London's Ally Pally in 2018; buy Chainsmokers tickets now at StubHub.
