System of a Down - Four-Piece Return In 2015

Upon their formation, SOAD quickly amassed a large following off the back of their now world-renowned live shows and a three-track demo that was such a strong showing they ended up signing for Columbia's American label by the end of 1997. All of Armenian background, the four-piece made up of vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist and sometime vocalist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadijian and drummer John Dolmayan released their eponymous debut album in 1998. Proving a solid first effort, the album would eventually go gold and result in a prestigious slot opening for the heavyweight Slayer and Ozzfest tours.

2001's Toxicity and the barer follow up Steal This Album saw the band at their most brilliant, with 'Prison Song', 'Chop Suey' and 'Aerials' counting amongst the band's best. Recorded alongside powerhouse producer Rick Rubin, the classic metal albums Mesmerize and Hypnotize both found their way to the top of the Billboard 200, and since then, despite the lack of new release, the ever-enduring band's popularity is showing no signs of waning.
