The String Cheese Incident tour dates
As one of the leading independent bands in America, The String Cheese Incident has attracted fans for more than two decades, playing hundreds of concerts across the nation and beyond. Rocking out with their self-described "sacrilegious mix of bluegrass, calypso, salsa, Afro-pop, funk, rock and jazz," the band combines an eclectic mix of musical inspirations to weave a sound that is uniquely their own. The band is also notable in that all members provide vocals and contribute original compositions, although Nershi has written the vast majority.
Incredibly, The String Cheese Incident still features all of its founding members, with Michael Kang on mandolin, violin and electric guitar, Michael Travis on drums, Bill Nershi on guitar, Kyle Hollingsworth on piano, organ and accordion, and Keith Mosely on bass. In 2006, the band added sixth member Jason Hann on auxiliary percussion. Fans can see this incredible band live at venue stops along The String Cheese Incident tour route.
The String Cheese Incident's background
The String Cheese Incident formed in 1993 amidst the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, with members based in both Crested Butte and Telluride. At first they performed casually, exchanging shows along the local bar circuit for free lift tickets to ski mountains across the western United States. However, soon enough they built a dedicated following. Just six months after the band's formation, The String Cheese Incident was invited to perform at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, a huge honour for a band so new.
With the band's popularity growing astronomically, they soon made more than 170 live appearances each year. They formed their own independent label, Sci Fidelity, in 1996 and released their debut album, Born on the Wrong Planet, that same year. A handful of albums followed in quick succession at a rate of about one per year. In 2001, they saw evidence of their popularity spreading even further. Their album of that year, Outside Inside, became the first to crack Billboard charts, rising to No. 147 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Independent Albums chart. Every album since has found footing on the Billboard charts, including two albums - A Song in My Head (2014) and Believe (2017) - which achieved the No. 1 position on the Heatseekers chart.
The String Cheese Incident's leadership
Despite undeniable success on the music scene, The String Cheese Incident isn't merely a leader in musical artistry. The band also headed the field with other causes that tie into performance. They were among the first bands to make heavy use of the Internet when the world wide web boom began, essentially setting the groundwork for the grassroots band development that would become common in decades to come. They have lead the way with promoting green concerts and have played an essential part in fighting unfair ticketing practises.
