Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - Touring the UK in 2016
The UK's oldest continuing professional symphony orchestra, the Merseyside-based RLPO have been dazzling audiences since their formation in 1840. Conductor and Classical BRIT award-winning Vasily Petrenko has helped to develop the concert group into a world-renowned unit with a discography of critically acclaimed recordings. In 2016, after the resounding success of Cream Classics at Liverpool Cathedral in April, the 60-piece assembly once again perform a carefully selected playlist of anthems from the dance legends Cream - but this time in London's O2 Academy Brixton. That's not all though. Soon afterwards, RLPO team up with the Bootleg Beatles to mark the 50th anniversary of The Beatles seminal album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band. The Scouse celebration will see the tribute band joined by a 70-piece ensemble in London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall. More About Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - Chamber Music, But Not As You Know It
Established by a group of amateurs in the early 19th century, this musical collective started out performing famous symphonies like Beethoven's First. Second only in prestige to the London Orchestra, this assembly is the only orchestra in the UK with their own hall - the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall - which they use to put on some 250 concerts throughout the year. Their timeless, harmonious sound has also attracted collaborations with international artists in the rock world like Liverpool son Sir Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and the Lightning Seeds.
These chamber music masters played an important role during Liverpool's European Capital of Culture status in 2008, and have since taken it upon themselves to inspire the next generation of classical music listeners. With the help of Principal Conductor Vasily Petrenko, RLPO has already received incredible international acclaim, and with 2016 seeing collaborations with both Cream and the Bootleg Beatles, there's clearly plenty more to come.
